About Us

The struggle is real when it comes to finding a therapist you click with.

Believe me, I’ve been there! Many of us in the mental health field have experienced challenges of our own and have intimate knowledge of what it’s like to be in the client seat. Being human can be really hard, and it’s too often that I see our difficulties being pathologized, rather than normalized. Going to therapy for the first time is vulnerable enough; You deserve to be seen as a human and not just a problem to be fixed in these spaces.

Hey, I’m Steph.

ANXIETY & TRAUMA THERAPIST

I can’t tell you how grateful I am to have you here. I am a licensed therapist and Masters level Registered Social Worker and founder of The Healing Hive Therapy Co. I have always wanted to open a practice of my own to transform traditional mental health care and provide authentic, relatable and accessible support.

I specialize in trauma and providing modern and quality mental health care for adolescents, young adults and adults in Alberta. I’m especially passionate about working with women!

I received my Masters of Clinical Social Work at The University of Calgary specializing in trauma-informed care. I also received my Bachelor of Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies (BCR) from The University of Calgary, where I spent much of time participating in student advocacy and facilitating community events as the president of the CRDS Student’s Association. However, my passion for inclusion and advocacy started long before my university journey…

I’ve worked in the social services field for over 12 years. The settings that I’ve worked in range from non-profit (Calgary Distress Centre, Hull Services, Between Friends, Cerebral Palsy Kids and Families, Christine Meikle School, PACEkids) to private practice. My BCR degree and background working with the most vulnerable populations have fostered my belief that mental health care should be accessible and that everyone’s unique experience and identity deserves to be understood.

My Approach

I also believe that we can't think our way out of a dysregulated nervous system, which means that I focus on body-based/ somatic approaches in the therapy space.

When we feel safe enough to connect to ourselves, we are better able to connect with others! Having said that, I utilize a flexible approach based on each unique person, yet it is always evidence-based and grounded in research. I believe that you're the expert in your own healing and you get to choose what we process and when; we can go into anything and everything, or simply the latest reality tv drama. I honour you for showing up with whatever you are ready to process together. I will gently be there for you and with you while using humour and compassion to connect.

My practice is based on the healing power of human connection and relationships.

I am totally not a ‘blank slate therapist’; I will be expressive and feeling alongside you. I believe that mental health care should be accessible and that therapists best serve their clients by being real and authentic. I show up to the therapy space as my genuine human self, and I encourage my clients to show up as their authentic selves too!
